BANGKOK, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Radion Gacanin has agreed to coach the Kuwaiti national team in addition to his club side, Al Kuwait, according to the Asian Football Confederation.

The Croatian, who was appointed head coach of the nine-times Kuwaiti league champions in May, will take charge of the national team for upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifiers, the AFC said on its website.

His first match in charge will be a friendly against Lebanon on January 2. Kuwait are also expected to play Oman and Singapore in warm-up matches.

Kuwait, who last qualified for the World Cup in 1982, have been drawn with Iran, Syria and the United Arab Emirates in Group Five.

Two months ago, FIFA suspended Kuwait from international matches because of political interference but lifted the ban after its soccer federation board resigned.
