Curbs rules Zamora out of January sales

West Ham United manager Alan Curbishley insists striker Bobby Zamora is not for sale and remains a key part of his plans at Upton Park.

Zamora, 26, has been linked with moves to Fulham and Reading in the January transfer window despite being sidelined with tendinitis since August.

But Curbishley said: 'Bobby Zamora was one of the players that finished last season so strongly and at the start of this season he started in the team with Craig Bellamy.

'He got injured up at Bristol Rovers and we haven't seen him since. He is in my plans but we have to wait for him to get fit.

'He always seems to be linked with Fulham but I had dinner with Lawrie Sanchez the other day and he never mentioned anything to me at all - and he had every opportunity because we were together for about 10 hours.

'I think maybe managers are wondering why Bobby isn't playing and don't realise he is injured and has been out for three months.'

Curbishley does not plan on doing any business in the January transfer window - his only Christmas wish is that West Ham's luck changes on the injury front.

Curbishley's five key summer signings have all spent more time in the treatment room than in training since joining the club.

French midfielder Julien Faubert injured his Achilles in the summer before playing a competitive game for the club and Kieron Dyer broke his leg against Bristol Rovers.

Scott Parker and Freddie Ljungberg have started just seven league and games between them this season, while Bellamy is out injured again.

The Hammers squad has been down to the bare bones this season and Curbishley believes the return of his big-name players will have the same impact as a raft of new signings.

'We are obviously looking but unless I have a disaster in one area I am happy with the squad we have got,' said Curbishley.

'I'm not sure many Premier League clubs would have been able to cope with what we have been through.

'We have not been in a position to put the new signings in the team all together to see what kind of a side we have got here.

'I am hoping one or two of these players get fit before the window opens up and we will have a stronger squad.'
