STOCKHOLM, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Toulouse striker Johan Elmander has been ruled out of Sweden's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Spain and Latvia because of a thigh injury.
'He's not going to be able to make it for the matches,' Sweden coach Lars Lagerback said in a statement on the Swedish FA's website. 'It's sad but we have other good strikers.'
Elmander, who established himself as a first choice a year ago during Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's brief boycott of the Swedish national team, is likely to be replaced by either veteran Marcus Allback of FC Copenhagen or Werder Bremen's Markus Rosenberg.
Birmingham City's Sebastian Larsson has been called into the squad in the place of Elmander.
Sweden face Spain in Madrid next Saturday and host Latvia four days later. Topping the Group F standings on 23 points, one more than second-placed Spain, the Swedes need just one point from the two matches to qualify for next year's finals.
Elmander injured himself in Toulouse's UEFA Cup match with Sparta Prague on Thursday.
