Bentley back for England

August 31, 2007

Blackburn's David Bentley and Aston Villa's Ashley Young have been named in England coach Steve McClaren's squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers at Wembley against Israel and Russia.

The two youngsters were the most notable inclusions in the 26-man squad named this lunchtime for the games that could make or break England's bid to reach the Euro 2008 finals.

Bentley has been handed the opportunity to win a first senior cap after being named in the party.

He was recently left out of the squad to face Germany in the recent match at Wembley after McClaren chose to leave him out following his refusal to take part in the Under-21 European Championships in the summer due to fatigue.

McClaren said Young's inclusion was reward for good performances for the under-21s and also with Aston Villa.

'I think it is good for experience [to bring him in],' said McClaren.

'He has has done well for the under-21s and he has carried that into the beginning of the season.

'It is an ideal opportunity to bring in one of the under-21s, which I'm keen to do.

'It is good to blood these youngsters.'
