Birmingham are closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Peter Luccin.
Blues boss Steve Bruce is keen to land the signature of the 28-year-old Luccin before the transfer window closes on Friday.
Bruce has been keen to sign a creative midfielder after previously being interested in Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini and Tottenham's Hossam Ghaly.
Flamini opted to remain with the Gunners while Bruce withdrew from the £3 million transfer of Ghaly after a training ground disagreement with the Egyptian international.
Luccin was previously with Celta Vigo but has spent the last three seasons with Atletico.
Bruce said: 'We are close to one or two things. I hope by Monday we will have something done.
'We went for two midfielders in the summer. We chased Flamini for weeks and then he decided to stay with Arsenal.
'The other one was Ghaly and we all know what happened with him. The guy we hope to bring in we hope will all be done and dusted by Monday. The player we are after has got a really good pedigree.
'We have agreed his wages, a fee and the length of contract. I'd love to have a young British midfielder but you can't get them for whatever reason.'
Bruce, who is also being linked with Marseille midfielder Modeste M'bami, filled the midfield hole in Saturday's win over Derby with on loan Arsenal player Johan Djourou.
If and when Luccin arrives at St. Andrews, he will become Bruce's 11th signing of the summer.
