Darren Bent insists it is 'ridiculous' that Tottenham head coach Martin Jol's position has been called into question so early in the season.
The Dutchman has been under pressure after the Champions League hopefuls lost their opening two Premier League games, and the Spurs board have denied reports they offered the post to Sevilla coach Juande Ramos.
Now Bent, a £16million summer signing from Charlton, has come out in defence of Jol.
'It's absolutely ridiculous that he's under pressure,' the England striker told the Daily Mail.
'He has got top-five finishes in the last two seasons.
'He's worked wonders so people talking about him getting the sack is absurd. The lads believe in him, everyone around the club loves him - you could hear the fans' reaction on Saturday and how much they admire him. He knows he's not going anywhere.
'He has made a big impact on me already. He's the one that got me from Charlton. He's going to have a massive influence on my career and I want to repay him with goals.
'His coaching methods and the way that he talks to you shows he's a top manager. He shows everyone a lot of respect, while others will hammer a player if he's not done something right. He just talks to you, gets his point across and everyone knows what he wants.'
