Walsall apprentice Reid dies in training

Walsall have announced that 16-year-old apprentice Anton Reid died during a training session on Monday morning.

The striker collapsed during a training session at the University of Aston on Monday morning but no details of a cause of death have yet been made public.

Reid came through the League One club's centre of excellence and had recently began training with the youth team for the first time.

As a mark of respect a Pontins Holidays League fixture against local rivals Wolves which was scheduled for Tuesday night has been postponed.

A club statement said: 'It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of our young apprentice players, Anton Reid.

'Players and staff have been left heartbroken by this terrible tragedy.

'Our thoughts and prayers are with Anton's parents, family and friends at this very sad time.'
