PARIS, Aug 11 (Reuters) - A last-minute goal by Sweden striker Johan Elmander gave Toulouse a shock 1-0 victory over 10-man Olympique Lyon in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
Elmander struck from close range to help the home side rally from a 3-1 defeat at Valenciennes in their first match of the season.
Lyon, who started their title defence with a 2-0 home win over Auxerre last weekend, wasted several opportunities and had Kim Kallstrom sent off after 35 minutes.
The Sweden midfielder received his marching orders for contesting a refereeing decision. Kallstrom apparently spat towards the fourth official after he was elbowed by a Toulouse player.
'It was an unfair red card,' Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas told reporters.
'Whoever knows Kim knows he would never spit at anyone. He just spat on the ground.'
The visitors still had their chances after that, notably when Ivory Coast forward Kader Keita hit the post with a header on 65 minutes.
The win gave Toulouse a welcome morale boost four days before they host Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie.
Lyon captain, Brazilian defender Cris, was carried off on a stretcher in the second half after hurting his knee in a clash with Elmander.
'We suspect he has damaged ligaments,' said club doctor Jean-Jacques Amprino. 'We will have to wait until tomorrow to find out exactly how serious this is.'
Olympique Marseille, widely regarded as the team most capable of ruining Lyon's title plans, were held to a 0-0 home draw by Stade Rennes and are still chasing their first victory.
The Marseille players left the Velodrome stadium with jeers ringing in their ears after a dull display.
Le Mans were 3-1 winners at Sochaux thanks to a hat-trick from Brazilian striker Tulio de Melo.
Girondins Bordeaux won 2-0 at Auxerre while Nancy beat promoted Caen 1-0.
Le Mans, Bordeaux and Nancy share top spot as the only teams with maximum points from two games.
Auxerre forward Toifilou Maoulida missed two penalties. 'I want to apologise to my team,' he said, close to tears..
