MEXICO CITY, May 9 (Reuters) - Argentine coach Americo Gallego has quit Toluca following the Mexican club's elimination from the Libertadores Cup, the club said on their website on Wednesday.
Gallego, a midfielder in Argentina's 1978 World Cup-winning side, had been in charge since July 2005, winning the Apertura championship in his first season at the helm.
The 52-year-old has also won the Argentine league title with three different clubs - River Plate, Newell's Old Boys and Independiente.
Toluca were knocked out in the third round of the Libertadores, losing 5-3 on aggregate to Colombian champions Cucuta despite winning the first game 1-0.
