BERLIN, April 23 (Reuters) - Arminia Bielefeld coach Ernst Middendorp failed a drink-drive blood test early on Sunday several hours after his relegation-threatened club won a key match, police said on Monday.

A spokesman for the Guetersloh police said Middendorp's blood-alcohol level was found to be above the legal limit. He was tested after an eyewitness saw him trying unsuccessfully to park a car in the early hours of Sunday.

'The officers gave him a test and determined it to be above the 'unfit to drive'level,' the spokesman told German sports news agency SID.

Middendorp was taken to a police station for the test. After failing it, he took a taxi to his hotel, the spokesman said.

Arminia Bielefeld said that Middendorp, 48, had informed them on Sunday morning about the incident. On Monday, Bielefeld said club president Hans-Hermann Schwick, who is an lawyer, would take over Middendorp's defence.
