January 29, 2007

ASUNCION, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Olympic champions Argentina qualified for the 2008 Games in Beijing by beating Uruguay 1-0 with the last touch of the game in the South American under-20 championship on Sunday.

Argentina joined Brazil, who went through as tournament winners after beating Colombia 2-0.

Uruguay, needing a draw to qualify, had been set to go in place of their neighbours after enjoying the better of the match at the Defensores del Chaco stadium.

But Lautaro Costa headed in from a corner in the third minute of injury-time and there was not even time for the stunned Uruguayans to kick off again.

First half goals from Gremio midfielder Lucas and Edgar gave Brazil the points against Colombia.

Brazil topped the six-team final stage with 11 points from five games, followed by Argentina (9), Uruguay (7) and Chile (6).

Uruguay and Chile joined Brazil and Argentina in qualifying for this year's World under-20 championship in Canada. Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani finished as top-scorer with seven goals.
