Bad weather halts Leicester-Birmingham tie

January 19, 2007

Leicester's televised Championship clash with promotion-chasing Birmingham has been postponed due to safety concerns.

This week's extreme weather conditions caused major storm damage to a building adjacent to the stadium, forcing officials to rearrange.

The Foxes had been hopeful Leicester City Council would be able to secure the site of the nearby Holiday Inn after gale-force winds wreaked havoc, part of its roof landing on the Walkers Stadium concourse.

However, the clean-up operation has proved unsuccessful with a replacement date yet to be announced.
