Eriksson in negotiations with Marseille

January 3, 2007

Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is in negotiations with Marseille as well as another club and a national team regarding his next job in management.

Reports from abroad this week suggested the Swede, who stepped down after England's World Cup failure in the summer, had signed a contract with the Mediterranean club.

Eriksson - who is still thought to be earning a weekly wage as part of his Football Association severance package - has not signed a deal with the French club and any agreement is unlikely within the next fortnight.

The former Lazio and Benfica boss has been linked with countless jobs since the summer, the most recent being the South Africa and Qatar national teams as well as Marseille and Paris St Germain.

The possible sale of Marseille, currently managed by Albert Emon, to new investors is the main obstacle in those discussions while Eriksson has at least two other possible options with a third club also thought to be interested.
