Maccarone looking for Italian return

January 3, 2007

Massimo Maccarone has reiterated his wish to leave Middlesbrough and return to Italy.

The striker admits he has not been at his best this season but is still frustrated at his lack of opportunities.

With Boro just above the Barclays Premiership relegation zone, the ex-Empoli forward told Gazzetta dello Sport: 'I want to change and maybe come back to Italy.

'I'm not perfect and, for sure, I haven't had my best performance - but I've never complained and I've always trained seriously.

'When I've played I gave my best always.'

Maccarone is hoping to join Torino, Siena or Napoli.

'There are negotiations but up until now, nothing concrete,' he said.

'I don't ask the guarantee to be a regular but I want to play for a place at the same level as the others.'
