MADRID, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Sevilla believe their 2-1 comeback win over Real Madrid has provided definitive proof that they are capable of challenging for the league title this season.
'We are competing with the two big teams in the league, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and are proving that we are just as competitive as them,' coach Juande Ramos told a news conference after Saturday's victory at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
'If we can maintain this sort of form when there are six games left to play then we will be in with a chance of the title.
The UEFA Cup holders fell behind to a David Beckham free kick, but equalised four minutes later thanks to an opportunist strike from the in-form Frederic Kanoute.
The home side then went on to claim a deserved victory when Uruguayan striker Ernesto Chevanton netted with a spectacular overhead shot 13 minutes from time.
The win, which ended Real's four-match winning run in the league, made it seven wins from seven for Sevilla at home this season and pushed them up into second place in the table, two points behind Barca, who won 1-0 at home to Real Sociedad.
'We've shown that we are the only ones who are capable of following Barcelona who are unstoppable at the moment,' Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido told reporters.
'We have made a fantastic start to the season.'
