Telfer reveals summer exit plans

December 3, 2006

Celtic full-back Paul Telfer has revealed he will leave the club in the summer.

The former Coventry and Southampton player is living away from his family and wants to return to their Winchester home.

The 35-year-old, currently in his second season at Celtic, admits he may quit football if he does not find a club closer to home.

Telfer said: 'My contract is up and even if there was an offer of another year I won't be staying.

'I feel fit enough to play on, but my family couldn't settle and are already back down south, so if a club came in I'd look at that.

'All the talk is about Shaun Maloney and Aiden McGeady but I can also leave on a Bosman at the end of the season. I might slip away.

'Seriously, I will leave because it's not ideal being away from my family and I went a month without seeing my son.

'He has just started school so doesn't really appreciate what his dad has up in Scotland.

'He's more interested in Scooby Doo than football.

'If I stop playing I'm not sure what I'll do - but not coaching.'
