MADRID, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Sevilla winger Jesus Navas could be out of action for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury in their 3-0 King's Cup win over Gimnastica Segoviana, the Primera Liga leaders said on Thursday.
'Navas has torn the mensicus in his left knee and aggravated what appears to be an older injury around his anterior cruciate ligament,' the club said on their website.
The player will have exploratory surgery after which Sevilla will know the full extent of the damage, though they estimate he could be out for between six and eight weeks.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been in scintillating form in recent weeks and has been a key figure in steering Sevilla to the top of the Primera Liga table.
He is set to miss Sevilla's remaining UEFA Cup Group C matches against Braga, Grasshoppers Zurich and AZ Alkmaar. The UEFA Cup holders are third in the group with one point from one game.
