JEF United beat Antlers to retain J-League Cup

November 3, 2006

TOKYO, Nov 3 (Reuters) - JEF United Chiba left it late to beat Kashima Antlers 2-0 and retain the J-League Cup on Friday.

Late goals from Koki Mizuno and Yuki Abe gave United the title for the second year running as manager Amar Osim emulated father Ivica's triumph with the club in 2005.

Amar Osim took over as United coach after his father was appointed head coach of Japan's national side.

Mizuno broke the deadlock from an acute angle after 81 minutes before Abe's sharp header two minutes later killed off Kashima.

United became the first side to win back-to-back J-League Cups since Tokyo Verdy in the early 1990s following last year's victory - the club's first major title.
