SOFIA, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Levski Sofia striker Emil Angelov will miss the Champions League Group A match against Chelsea on Wednesday because of a thigh injury.
He initially picked up the injury during Levski's 5-0 demolition by champions Barcelona on the first day of the Champions League two weeks ago.
The 26-year-old Angelov, who scored twice in the four qualifying round matches Levski played, aggravated the injury during his team's 1-0 win over city rivals CSKA five days later.
'I really wanted to play against Chelsea,' said Angelov. 'Everyone wants to play against the best and I'm not an exception but unfortunately I will not recover in time.'
'We've decided not to take any risk and I hope to be back for next Sunday's city derby with Slavia Sofia.'
Levski, making their Champions League's home debut, will also be without Bulgaria under-21 striker Valeri Domovchiiski who is suffering from a muscle strain.
The absence of Angelov and Domovchiiski will open the door for experienced striker Georgi Ivanov, who was twice voted Bulgarian Footballer of the Year.
The 30-year-old Ivanov, who has yet to start in Europe this season, is currently the Bulgarian premier league's top scorer with eight goals.
