World Cup woe ref Poll leads bookings tables

September 22, 2006

Bungling World Cup ref Graham Poll has issued more yellow cards than any other Premiership ref this season.

England's refereeing representative at the World Cup became notorious for yellow-carding Croatian star Josip Simunic three times before eventually sending him off during their 2-2 draw with Australia at this summer's tournament in Germany.

Poll, 42, was subsequently sent home from the World Cup after the group stage, despite being tipped to ref the final before the beginning of the tournament.

Poll has awarded 14 yellow cards in his last four games - but has yet to award a straight red or more than one yellow to any individual player.
