Jung hat trick helps South Korea trounce Taiwan

SEOUL, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Striker Jung Jo-gook scored a hat trick to help South Korea demolish Taiwan 8-0 in their Asian Cup Group B qualifier on Wednesday.

South Korea opened the scoring four minutes into the match when Reading's Seol Ki-hyeon made a good run and fired in a shot for the first of his two goals.

One minute later, FC Seoul's Jung began his goal bonanza, that included two headers, against a helpless Taiwan which hardly challenged the South Korean defence.

Coach Pim Verbeek's South Korea dominated play with Cho Jae-jin of Japan's J-League Shimuzu S-Pulse also scoring twice.

The victory gave South Korea 10 points from four games and means they need just a point to secure qualification for the Asian Cup from their last two games with Syria in October and Iran a month later.
