VIGO, Spain -- Defending champion Barcelona won its Spanish League opener, beating Celta de Vigo 3-2 Monday night as substitute Eidur Gudjohnsen scored 15 minutes into La Liga debut. The former Chelsea forward replaced Ludovic Giuly in the 73rd minute and scored when he chested Deco's pass, lifted the ball over defender Angel Lopez and volleyed it into the net. Fernando Baiano put Celta ahead in the 42nd minute but Samuel Eto'o, who led the league with 26 goals last season, tied it in the 56th. Lionel Messi put Barcelona ahead four minutes later, but Gustavo Lopez made it 2-2 in the 65th.
LONDON -- Portsmouth moved into second place in the English Premier League, beating Middlesbrough 4-0 behind two goals from Kwankwo Kanu. Portsmouth (2-0-1) has seven points, ahead of Aston Villa and Everton on goal difference, trailing only Manchester United (3-0).
