Blackburn defender Todd wins red card appeal

August 22, 2006

Blackburn defender Andy Todd has won his appeal against the red card he was shown in Rovers' Barclays Premiership opener at Portsmouth.

The 31-year-old skipper was sent off for what referee Alan Wiley deemed to be a professional foul on Pompey striker Kanu.

However, television replays appeared to show Todd played the ball as he slid in to challenge the Nigerian, who then missed the subsequent penalty but Portsmouth won the game 3-0.

Former Middlesbrough and Bolton man Todd will now not serve any suspension.
