MOSCOW -- The United States beat Congo 2-1 Friday in its opener at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Championship on goals by Kelley O'Hara and Amy Rodriguez.
O'Hara scored in the 41st minute, and Rodriguez converted a penalty kick in the 65th. The Americans also hit the crossbar four times and outshot Congo 22-9.
Tresorine Nzuzi scored for Congo in the 70th.
France defeated Argentina 5-0 in the other Group D game. The Americans play Argentina on Monday and France on Thursday.
Two years ago, when the tournament was the Under-19 World Cup Championship, the Americans finished third, losing to Germany in the semifinals.
