HOUSTON -- Houston Dynamo leading scorer Brian Ching is expected to be sidelined for three weeks after he undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery.
Ching, who suffered a right lateral meniscal tear in his right knee, said he hoped his recovery would not take that long.
Team officials have been aware of the problem since Aug. 5. Dynamo officials said he injured the knee in the All-Star game. An MRI last week confirmed the injury, but Ching went on to play on both Wednesday and Saturday.
Ching has 10 goals this season.
"I feel frustrated that I will not be able to play for the following weeks. I will do my very best to take care of the injury, and to be back on the field sooner than anticipated," Ching said in a release on the team's Web site.
Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear said he expected Ching to be back for the last few games of the season.
