David Moyes insists he is not concerned that £8.5million record signing Andrew Johnson has yet to score for his new club.
The Everton chief has seen the England international play in six pre-season matches so far and he is still to get off the mark for the Goodison Park club.
Everton lost 1-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao in Howard Kendall's testimonial and the 17,000-plus crowd witnessed Johnson miss out on a first-half hat-trick.
But Moyes said: 'I am not worried one bit that Andy hasn't scored, not a jot, I'm delighted with his form and his part in the team. He will score goals, lots of them, and there will be no better time than next week against Watford in the first league game.'
Moyes added: 'On another day Andy would have had three. He hit the bar, had another clipped off the line and then was stopped by a fine save, although the effort was almost past him. It hit the keeper's back foot.
'Overall we are delighted with him, his contribution was good for the hour he was on. And I am sure his contribution will be good for the whole season.
'Joleon Lescott played the full 90 minutes and he got better as the game went on. It's a big move up for him and he needs the experience now because every mistake is scrutinised.
'It was great that Howard (Kendall) got such a good testimonial, the crowd was excellent and I hope he enjoyed his day because he deserves it.'
On the game, Moyes said: 'Our previous games have been far more competitive than that, this time it was far too much like a pre-season run out.
'But the squad got a good work-out, I had decided to use all the substitutes regardless of the state of the game and everyone got a good work-out under their belts.'
