MADRID, July 26 (Reuters) - Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal with Valencia for striker Mista, the Primera Liga club said on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old, who has won three caps for Spain, will join on a four-year contract after undergoing a medical on Thursday. Spanish media have said the deal is worth around five million euros ($6.30 million).
Although Mista made 29 appearances for Valencia last season 19 were as a substitute with coach Quique Sanchez Flores preferring Pablo Aimar and David Villa to lead the line.
Striker Fernando Morientes's arrival from Liverpool appeared to have made him surplus to requirements with Valencia.
Mista top scored in the Primera Liga with 19 goals in the 2003/4 season when Valencia last won the league title.
He is the latest in a string of signings by Atletico who have already bought forward Sergio Aguero, midfielder Costinha and defenders Ze Castro, Mariano Pernia and Yourkas Seitaridis.
