Coventry turn down Blues' McSheffrey bid

July 19, 2006

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has seen a second bid for Coventry forward Gary McSheffrey rejected by the Sky Blues.

McSheffrey scored 17 goals for the Sky Blues last season, mostly from a wide-left position.

Coventry have already turned down one reported £2million bid from the Blues for the 23-year-old, and Ricoh Arena chief Micky Adams said: 'Birmingham City contacted us yesterday to increase their original offer and it's fair to say we turned them down.

'We've stated from the off we don't want to lose Gary McSheffrey but you also need to look at both sides of the coin.

'Speculation like this is very unsettling for the player and we need to move on sooner rather than later so we can concentrate on the new season.

'As far as I'm concerned, he is a Coventry City player and I want it to stay that way.'
