Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in signing England defender Sol Campbell.
Campbell is available after announcing at the weekend that he would be leaving Arsenal for a 'fresh challenge'.
The 31-year-old has said he would like to play abroad but Pompey boss Redknapp is hoping the south coast might also prove an attractive destination.
Redknapp told The News: 'I know Sol - he's a great lad. And I like him as a player. He was absolutely outstanding in the Champions League final.
'I've got to tell him where we are looking to go and the exciting times we have planned here over the next few years.'
Campbell was linked with Pompey last month but Turkish side Fenerbahce are also reportedly interested in signing him.
Redknapp is planning to rebuild the Pompey squad after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Barclays Premiership last season but admits the club may seem a hard sell at first.
He added: 'Until we get a couple of big names in, it will always be hard convincing other big players to come here.
'But that won't stop me trying. The potential of this club is fantastic. It's a great place for a player to come - and I will tell him that.'
