MADRID, July 9 (Reuters) - Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has extended his contract with Villarreal until 2010, the Primera Liga club said on Sunday.
Forlan hinted at the renewal in a news conference earlier in the week. 'I'm very happy at Villarreal,' he said. 'It shows when I train and when I mix with my team mates. I feel very comfortable here and have never seen myself leaving the club.'
The 27-year-old, whose original deal was due to expire in 2009, joined the club from Manchester United two years ago for a reported fee of $3.8 million)after a frustrating period at Old Trafford.
He became the leading scorer in the Primera Liga in his first season at Villarreal, scoring 25 goals and helping the club qualify for the Champions League.
He scored 10 league goals last season when Villarreal finished in seventh in the standings.
