Palace ponder Wigan's £1m bid for Boyce

July 7, 2006

Crystal Palace are considering a £1million bid from Wigan for defender Emmerson Boyce.

Boyce, 26, was the club's player of the year last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Barclays Premiership.

The Eagles would not want to lose one of their most important players - but Boyce has just one season to run on his Selhurst Park contract, meaning he could leave the club for free next summer.

'There has been a bid, but, as far as I am concerned, we have not yet given an answer,' Palace boss Peter Taylor said. 'Emmerson is in the final year of his contract, so this is something we have to think about.'

Taylor, who left Hull to take over at Selhurst Park last month, has already seen defender Fitz Hall leave the club to join Wigan.

It now appears as though Boyce, who has made 77 appearances for Palace since signing from Luton in the summer of 2004, could follow Hall to the north west.

England striker Andrew Johnson also quit Palace to join Everton earlier in the summer.
