Aston Villa today confirmed Hamburg have made a preliminary approach for striker Milan Baros.
The Czech Republic player was top scorer at Villa Park last season with 12 goals, in an injury-hit campaign which also saw him fail to play any part at the World Cup despite being part of the squad.
The 24-year-old had been linked with a move away from Villa, whom he joined from Liverpool at the start of last season - before Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorfer revealed his club's interest.
However, Villa chairman Doug Ellis insists the player is not looking for a move away from the midlands - telling his club's official website: 'It's true to say we've had a preliminary call from Hamburg, but nothing more than that.
'Milan has got two years left on his contract - and his agent has assured us that despite the interest from Germany, he is happy at Aston Villa and is not looking to leave.'
