Blades make first new signing in Sommeil

May 24, 2006

Sheffield United have completed their first signing since being promoted to the Premiership by bringing in defender David Sommeil.

The 31-year-old Frenchman was released by Manchester City earlier this month and thus joins the Blades on a free transfer.

United boss Neil Warnock told his club's official website: 'One or two clubs from London were looking at David but he didn't want to move house and we are pleased to have him on board.'

Sommeil joined City for £3.5million from Bordeaux in January 2003 and made 49 league appearances, scoring five times.

He also spent time on loan at Marseille in 2004.
