FA write to Dickov over Sommeil allegations

May 9, 2006

The Football Association have written to Paul Dickov following allegations David Sommeil spat at the Blackburn striker.

Sommeil, the Manchester City right-back, was reported to have spat in the face of Dickov during the first half of the 2-0 defeat to Rovers at Ewood Park on Sunday.

It is a case the FA could have trouble proving as there is no video evidence of an incident described by Blackburn manager Mark Hughes as 'unsavoury'.

Nevertheless, the FA have asked Dickov, 33, for his observations on the matter.

A spokesman confirmed: 'We have written to him asking for a response on what happened.'

What transpired at Ewood Park was the second highly-controversial incident involving Sommeil in a matter of days.

The Frenchman accused Arsenal striker Robin van Persie of making a racist remark during last Thursday's 3-1 home defeat to the Gunners, with the FA also investigating that situation.

The 31-year-old Sommeil also scored in the Eastlands clash against Arsenal but late goals from Jose Antonio Reyes sealed the points for the visitors.

Sommeil joined the club from French side Bordeaux in 2003 but is expected to leave this summer.
