Aston Villa skipper Olof Mellberg is hoping to make his latest comeback against Manchester City on Tuesday.
Mellberg has been suffering from a hamstring problem which first flared up four months ago.
The Swedish international made his comeback after a five-game absence by playing 45 minutes for the reserves against Manchester City at Tamworth on Saturday.
Villa have missed the presence of the former Racing Santander player despite the promise shown by rookie Gary Cahill.
Mellberg said: 'It's been a frustrating few weeks but I feel much more positive about things now. It has been one of those injuries where we couldn't work to a timescale.
'Providing there is no reaction, I would love to be involved on Tuesday.'
Villa reserve-team coach Kevin MacDonald confirmed: 'It was always planned that Olof would only play the first 45 minutes on Saturday for the reserves.
'The good thing is he has come through with no ill effects and seems well on the way to recovery.'
