BERLIN, April 18 (Reuters) - VfL Bochum secured a return to top division of the Bundesliga with a 2-0 victory over Alemannia Aachen on Monday, just one year after they were relegated.
The promotion marks a fifth successive time that Bochum returned to the top flight a year after being demoted to the second division: 1994, 1996, 2000, 2002 and now 2006.
Alemannia Aachen had already secured a return to the first division for the first time in 36 years on Sunday, when fourth placed Greuther Fuerth were beaten 1-0 away to Saarbruecken.
Following the victory, Bochum have 62 points, one ahead of Aachen. Energie Cottbus are in the third and final promotion slot on 53 points, six clear of Fuerth with four games left to play.
