Wigan's Skoko turns down Stoke loan option

January 31, 2006

Midfielder Josip Skoko has rejected a loan move to Stoke, despite a lack of first-team opportunities at Wigan.

The Australia international has struggled to force his way into the side since a summer move from Turkish club Genclerbirligi.

The 30-year-old has made just 11 appearances this season, including six starts in the FA and Carling Cups.

Although Skoko has one eye on the World Cup finals, and is eager to play as much football as possible, he has decided to remain at the JJB Stadium.

'I had an enquiry from Stoke during the week for Skoko on loan, and I put it to Josip and he turned it down,' confirmed Jewell.

'It's no problem. That's the only enquiry I have had for my players during the transfer window.'
