LISBON, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Sporting came from behind to beat rivals Benfica 3-1 with two goals from Brazilian striker Liedson and a penalty by Sa Pinto at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Sporting move up to third in the Premier League standings with 37 points behind champions Benfica, who have 40, and leaders Porto on 43 points before Sunday's trip to Rio Ave.
Benfica, who came into the Lisbon derby on the back of seven straight wins, lost in front of their best crowd of the season as more than 63,000 fans packed into their ground.
The night started well for the home side as they went ahead through captain Simao Sabrosa's 27th-minute penalty after a handball by Sporting defender Custodio.
Benfica held onto their lead until the 67th minute when Sporting equalised with a spot kick of their own by midfielder Sa Pinto after a foul by defender Beto on striker Liedson.
The visitors went in front for the first time with a fine individual effort by Liedson after 74 minutes and the Brazilian striker wrapped up a deserved win with the third goal after a counter-attack eight minutes before the final whistle.
