CARSON, Calif. -- Guillermo Ramirez, the MVP of last year's MLS Cup, isn't expected to return to the Los Angeles Galaxy after rejecting the team's contract offer.
The deal remains on the table, but the midfielder's return "looks doubtful," coach Steve Sampson said Wednesday.
Ramirez's overtime goal gave the Galaxy a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution.
"As thankful as we are that he scored the goal, we have to take a look at the entire season and we did not get the goal-scoring production that we anticipated and expected from him," Sampson said.
Ramirez had one goal and one assist in 24 regular-season games.
The Galaxy has "identified some very good players" in Brazil it would like to bring to Southern California to train with the team, pending resolution of visa issues, Sampson said.
