Van Hooijdonk returns to Feyenoord

AMSTERDAM, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Veteran striker Pierre van Hooijdonk will return to Feyenoord on an 18-month contract.

Van Hooijdonk, 36, was granted a free transfer from NAC Breda where he lost his starting spot after his friend and coach Ton Lokhof was sacked in December.

He scored 14 goals in 46 international appearances and 52 in two seasons for Feyenoord.

In a statement on the club's website Van Hooijdonk said he was pleased with the confidence displayed by coach Erwin Koeman.

'Last time I joined them I said I wanted to show a trophy at the Rotterdam city hall and that wish still stands,' he said.

After 20 matches Feyenoord are joint second in the first division, three points behind PSV Eindhoven.
