MADRID, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Italy striker Antonio Cassano has received his first call-up by Real Madrid after being included in Juan Roman Lopez Caro's squad for the home game with Sevilla in the Primera Liga on Sunday.
The 23-year-old joined from AS Roma on Jan. 4 for a fee of 5.5 million euros ($6.64 million) and has since been following an intensive training programme to regain fitness.
Cassano trained with the squad for the first time on Friday.
Coach Lopez Caro's side have been hit by a spate of injuries as they struggle to catch leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona, who hold a 13-point advantage over Real.
Raul, Ronaldo, Francisco Pavon, Jonathan Woodgate, Michel Salgado and Pablo Garcia are injured while Ivan Helguera is suspended.
Real, who are sixth, are a point ahead of seventh-placed Sevilla.
