United can't cut much into Chelsea's lead

January 3, 2006

LONDON -- Arsenal and Manchester United played a 0-0 tie Tuesday night, a result that failed to cut much into defending champion Chelsea's large lead in the English Premier League. Chelsea (19-1-1) has a 13-point lead over second-place Manchester United (13-2-6). Arsenal (10-6-4) is fifth with 34 points -- 24 behind the leaders.

Manchester United nearly got a goal near the end of the game when Wes Brown met Cristiano Ronaldo's corner kick with a firm header, but Emmanuel Eboue, who had just entered as a substitute, was at a post and cleared the ball off the line.
