The Belgium international midfielder left Everton to join Manchester United on transfer deadline day -- but only, he claims, after the Gunners expressed an interest in taking him to the Emirates Stadium.

He told beIN Sport: “I will not reveal the details, but Arsenal wanted me this summer.”

Asked whether Chelsea had also been interested, he replied: “No comment.”

Fellaini ultimately chose to link up again with David Moyes, who had taken him to Everton from Standard Liege in 2008, and the player explained: “Manchester United convinced me.

“During the transfer window, there’s always a list of players who are available to change clubs. You never know what’s right. I only knew that Moyes was interested.

“David Moyes has given me confidence. When I first joined Everton, I had difficulties, but he helped me and supported me. Moyes did everything he could to help me become a better player.

“I was criticised -- nobody knew who I was. I succeeded because I worked long and hard. That’s why I’m now playing for Manchester United.

“I’m not trying to be [Paul] Scholes or [Michael] Carrick. I want to play my own game. It’s difficult at the moment, but I will succeed.”
