Chester signs new Hull contract

Hull defender James Chester has signed a new three-year contract with the promoted Tigers, keeping him at the KC Stadium until 2016.

Chester, 24, joined the club from Manchester United in 2011 and ended speculation that he could move on by putting pen to paper on the new deal. He captained United's reserve team in 2008-09, winning the reserves Player of the Year award.

"It's nice to get the paperwork out of the way," he told the club's official website.

"I'm happy here, and I've got a great relationship with the rest of the lads. I also enjoy living in this area. This is the perfect situation."

The centre-half played 48 games as Hull clinched automatic promotion to the Premier League last season, finishing as Championship runners-up.
