Marcelo, 25, shook off suggestions that Mourinho has underperformed during his time in Madrid, despite the 50-year-old's insistence that his final season in charge has been a "failure".

Following Real's 3-3 draw with Real Sociedad on Sunday, Marcelo thanked Mourinho for his success over the last three years.

"We have not talked about [Mourinho's departure] yet. Mourinho is a great coach, he has helped me a lot and I wish him all the happiness in the world wherever he goes," he said. "We have to look forward and we'll see what happens next season.

Despite conceding a 90th minute equaliser at Sociedad, Marcelo believes Real were the better side.

"We did not have anything to play for, but for the shirt and for the fans we tried to win and play well," he added. "In the first half we did well, we started strongly, with cool heads, and went looking for the win."

The Brazil international also spoke of Neymar's decision to join Barcelona, saying: "I'm happy for him because he's going forward in his career. I wish him all the best."

Los Blancos goalkeeper Diego Lopez was a standout in Sunday's draw and insists he never considered leaving the club before becoming first choice over Iker Casillas.

"In Madrid it is hard to be sad. I always try to do my best," Lopez said. "I said at the time that every minute in Real Madrid is gold and that's what I want to do, take every opportunity you have to play."
