The Serie A side have been forced to play four matches this term either behind closed doors or at a different venue, while president Massimo Cellino remains under house arrest for an ongoing investigation into the construction of the stadium involving suspected embezzlement and fraud.

Cagliari sent a letter on Tuesday to authorities in the town of Quartu stating that they were cancelling their three-year deal to use the ground.

The club still have four home games left to play during the current campaign, starting with Inter Milan on April 14, and are likely to play these fixtures at neutral sites, such as at the stadiums of Trieste or Parma.

Cagliari only moved into the Is Arenas Stadium at the beginning of the season after leaving Stadio Sant'Elia.
