Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ivan Perisic.

The fee for Perisic, 23, is believed to be around €8 million and the Croatia international has signed a contract until 2017.

“I am proud to be here,” Perisic said. “I have not played much in Dortmund. That’s the only reason behind my transfer.”

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs was happy to have snared the midfielder, who has made just 13 Bundesliga starts in one-and-a-half seasons in Westphalia.

"We are delighted he is our player. That was the next important decision after the signing of Dieter Hecking,” Allofs said.

Perisic signed for Dortmund from Club Brugge in the summer of 2011, with the German champions spending €5.5 million after he topped the Belgian scoring charts in 2010-201.

But despite making 42 Bundesliga appearances, the Croat was not able to break into the Klopp's regular starting XI.

While with his national team in November 2012, Perisic had hinted at a possible exit, telling local media he was not satisfied with his role as a bench player.

“He fulfilled our expectations, we have a lot of competition here. The transfer was his wish,” Dortmund chief executive Aki Watzke said.

Local paper Ruhr Nachrichten report it is very likely Dortmund will now make a move in the January transfer window, though Watzke said: Right now we are not considering replacing Perisic.”

With Kevin Grosskreutz, Jakub “Kuba” B┼éaszczykowski, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze, Dortmund currently have only four players for three attacking midfield positionns; given the club’s targets in the Champions League, German Cup and Bundesliga in the upcoming months, this might not be enough.

They have recently been strongly linked with a swoop for former midfield star Nuri Sahin, who is currently on a season-long loan at Liverpool from Real Madrid.
