The two most successful nations in world football history - with nine World Cup triumphs between them - will meet at the Stade de Geneve on March 21.

The match comes a month after Brazil play England at Wembley as part of the FA's 150th anniversary celebrations, and will be a prelude to Luiz Felipe Scolari's team hosting the World Cup warm-up tournament in the summer.

Scolari took charge of Brazil for the second time in November following the sacking of Mano Menezes amid hopes he can lead the Seleccao to World Cup glory for a second time, having done so in 2002.

Brazil and Italy are both in Group A for the Confederations Cup, which runs for the final two weeks of June, along with Asian champions Japan and CONCACAF Gold Cup winners Mexico.

Spain, Uruguay and Tahiti - World, South American and Oceania champions respectively - will be joined in Group B by whichever side wins the African Nations Cup in January.
