Managerless Ajaccio are considering appointing Fabrizio Ravanelli as coach, according to the former Italy international's old boss Rolland Courbis.

Courbis managed Ravanelli's boss when he played at Marseille in the late 90s. Ravanelli, 44, has since moved into coaching himself, taking his first job with Juventus' youth team in July last year.

The 59-year-old, who has twice previously managed Ajaccio, suggested last summer that Ravanelli, nicknamed 'White Feather' due to his prematurely silver hair, should take the reins at Marseille before Elie Baup was appointed to replace Didier Deschamps.

And Courbis believes Ravanelli would also be a success in Corsica if he filled the position left vacant by the sacking of Alex Dupont earlier this week.

"I heard from Ajaccio that they are also considering Fabrizio Ravanelli, which I think is a really good idea," Courbis told radio station RMC. "I believe Fabrizio is mulling what response to give to this challenge."

Since Dupont was removed on Monday, Courbis' name has also been linked with the job and given his reputation as a coach who can keep struggling teams up, a return to the Stade Francois Coty would make sense for the manager, who also played for Ajaccio.

However, he signed an 18-month deal with Algerian club USM Alger in October, and insists he intends to honour the agreement.

"I'm doing well with USM Alger, with whom I'm under contract," he said. "If it's to come back to fight against relegation with a French club, even Ajaccio for whom I have a lot of affection, there is no contest."
