Atletico currently trail Campeonato leaders Fluminense by eight points with just five games remaining, and the result may prove to be a decisive blow to their title hopes.

Flamengo took the lead in the 28th minute through Renato Abreu but the dismissal of Wellington Silva two minutes before the interval was a setback for the visitors.

Goncalves Silva levelled the scores 13 minutes into the second half, but it was 10-a-side seven minutes later when Carlos Cesar was dismissed.
